Factors Affecting the Enzyme Activity

1)Concentration of enzyme

-Enzyme activity is directly proportional to the enzyme concentration

-If the enzyme concentration is doubled, the reaction is also doubled

-However concentration of substrate an be the limiting factor

2)Temperature

-Enzyme is not reactive at very low temperature

-It activity increase with increase in temperature

-Optimum temperature is the temperature where the activity of enzyme is the greatest, usually at body temperature (37º C)

-As the temperature increase beyond body temperature, activity of enzyme become low until the enzyme is denatured

3)pH

-Rate of reaction increase as pH increase

-however there is exceptional depending on location of enzyme
